1Introduction
Mercury ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our browser extension handles information when you use Mercury.
Our Core Principle: Mercury is designed with privacy as a foundation. We do not track you, we do not sell your data, and we collect only what is necessary for the extension to function.
2Information We Handle
Information We Process Temporarily
When you click to compare prices on a product page, Mercury reads:
- Product title, price, and attributes (brand, model, specifications)
- Retailer name and current page URL
This information is sent to our API to find price comparisons and is not stored permanently. It is used only to process your comparison request.
Information Stored Locally
Mercury stores the following preferences locally on your browser:
- Panel display state (minimized or expanded)
- Anonymous client identifier (random string for request deduplication)
This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.
Information We Do Not Collect
3How We Use Information
Product information you share when requesting a comparison is used exclusively to:
- ✓Find matching products across supported retailers
- ✓Calculate potential savings compared to the current price
- ✓Display relevant alternatives in the Mercury panel
We do not use this information for:
- ✕Advertising or targeted marketing
- ✕Building user profiles
- ✕Selling to third parties
- ✕Any purpose unrelated to price comparison
4Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties.
The only data transmission that occurs is product details sent to our secure API over HTTPS. Our API processes requests in real-time and does not retain personal data.
5Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
- HTTPS Encryption: All communications use TLS encryption
- No Persistent Storage: Comparison requests are processed and discarded
- Local Storage Only: Preferences stored using Chrome's secure storage API
6Third-Party Services
Mercury compares prices across multiple retailers (Amazon, Fnac, Cdiscount, Darty, Boulanger, Zalando, La Redoute, Rakuten, and others). When you click on a product alternative, you are redirected to the third-party retailer's website. At that point, the retailer's privacy policy applies.
7Your Rights & Choices
Control Your Data
- • Uninstall: Remove Mercury at any time to delete all locally stored preferences
- • Clear Storage: Use Chrome's extension settings to clear Mercury's local data
- • Don't Compare: Mercury only processes data when you actively request a comparison
No Account Required
Mercury does not require registration or login. There is no account to manage or delete because we don't collect personal information.
8International Users
Mercury is available worldwide. We are committed to complying with applicable data protection laws:
GDPR (EU/EEA)
We process minimal data with legitimate interest as the legal basis. You have the right to access, rectify, or erase any data.
CCPA (California)
We do not sell personal information. California residents may request information about data collection practices.
9Children's Privacy
Mercury is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Mercury after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
